The redesign of the Commerce Street/Beckley Avenue intersection continues. Community meetings have taken place with the City Design Studio presenting the WRT design to local stakeholders. A couple of obstacles remain before final redesign plans and construction can take place. The steel plant, Blanks Printing, and the auto repair garage (property owned by West Dallas Investments) stand to lose a portion of their street frontage due to the PD’s requirements for street widening and increased sidewalk widths. Negotiations and minor redesign are underway between all parties concerned.
There is also a problem with cost verses available funds from the 2006 bond money allocated for the project. None of these issues are insurmountable, and it is expected that we will be able to move forward with approved redesign in January of 2011 and more community meetings and input in the spring of 2011. Of course, with all of this redesign comes the much needed storm drain renovation as part of the road construction project. Thank you to City Design Studio for the renderings.
